As mentioned in previous posts, one of the emerging trends of the Embedded/Real-Time Operating Systems market has been the increasing adoption of Linux and other open source operating systems. Yesterday, we hosted a webcast presenting this and other trends, drivers and high-level findings from our recent report on the Embedded/Real-Time Operating Systems market.
In addition to the global economic recession, the market was also impacted by industry consolidation in 2009. OEMs have many choices for device development in deciding what type of target operating system to integrate. Demands for more functionality is driving complexity and increased software content. As a result, the types of operating systems used in target devices continue to shift from no formal and in-house developed to a variety of commercial and open source offerings.
